WHAT IS ENGRAVING?
There is more than one way of engraving, but the concept is defined as a technique or process to make designs on a surface. Designs are incised on the product by a cutting or carving tool. Engraving can be done on a variety of different materials including; stainless steel, aluminum, brass, plastic, powder coating, glass and more. It is seen everywhere and, in many cases, you might not even realize that it is the process being used. You can see this method used on everything from urns to name badges to promotional items.
WHAT ARE LAMACOIDS?
Lamacoids, or lamicoids, are a product or material used for the engraving process. In the industry, lamacoids are one of the most cost effective, and commonly used materials available for the engraving market. They are generally a 2 or 3-ply plastic product, that come in a variety of different colours, and they are easily mounted when combined with adhesive applied to the back of the product. Although there are many different uses, some common examples of products that use lamacoid material are nameplates, labels or badges, plastic tags, legend plates and bathroom signage, like the image below.
So, engraving and lamacoids are two different things, but they go hand in hand because one is a production method, while the other is a product used in the process.
